The miss proved costly as the Danes swept up the other end and took the lead via Mortensen, who tapped home after James Wright parried a low cross. One quickly became two for the visitors as they worked the ball clinically through the Villa team and into the path of Fukuda in the box, with the influential Japanese playmaker sending a first-time effort past Wright. Brøndby kept their foot on the gas and bagged their third goal in eight minutes when Olivier drilled a low shot into the net following a smart move down the right. Markie Meade saw a shot tipped over in the closing exchanges of the first half as the home side headed back to the changing rooms trailing by three.Boyd saw an effort deflected wide as the Young Lions looked to start a second-half comeback, but Brøndby maintained their stranglehold on the match. Chances were at a premium in a competitive half until substitute Ekstrand was denied from point-blank range by Wright, with the rebound cannoning against him and landing on the top of the net. Ekstrand did manage to get himself a goal to round things off, keeping TJ Carroll at bay before burying a shot past Wright.
