First Haley sent a drive wide of the right-hand post before Okuma showed more sharp reflexes to parry Fran Kirby’s inswinging corner off the line. Nevertheless, Villa’s confidence in possession grew as the clock ticked towards half time. Wilms sent a promising right-footed shot towards target from range but a robust block from opposite number Manuela Vanegas ensured Brighton retained their 1-0 lead at the interval.The second half started in a similar vein to the first, with Brighton surging forward. Okuma produced another brilliant pair of saves to prevent a second goal on 60 minutes, first smothering Vanegas’ shot from inside the six-yard box, before bouncing back to her feet to catch the Colombian’s headed rebound. Head coach Arroyo duly turned to Justine Kielland and Mia McAulay off the bench as Villa looked for a route back into the encounter. Hayley fizzed another shot over the bar for the home side before Arroyo made a further triple change, introducing striker Georgia Mullett, midfielder Miri Taylor and defender Océane Deslandes into the fray. The changes paid dividends as Villa gained increasing territory in the attacking half, though a clinical edge continued to evade them as Brighton repeatedly threatened. Moments after Okuma had repelled Olivia Garcia's low, near post effort, substitute Mullett escaped into space in the right channel. Unfortunately for Villa her low cross was intercepted before it could reach its intended target.Villa continued to dig deep as the contest entered the final ten minutes, finding a crucial clinical edge just shy of stoppage time. Dutch international Wilms stepped up to deliver a late corner from the far side, whipping a looping cross high into the air that evaded Brighton keeper Nnadozie before nestling into the back of the net for the equaliser. Brighton tried in vain to rescue their lead, with Villa keeping them at bay for the final few minutes to secure a second away point in succession. Villa's travels continue in midweek with a trip to The City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in the Subway Players Cup.
