Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck out of Germany squad with ankle injury

Schlotterbeck played the full 90 minutes of Jürgen Klopp's first fixture as Germany coach, a 1-1 draw away to the Netherlands last week.

He was then left out of the matchday squad for the subsequent 1-0 defeat to Greece in Augsburg, having just recently returned from a ligament injury to his left ankle that ruled him out of the end of Germany's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and Dortmund's first two 2026/27 Bundesliga fixtures.

"Nico rolled his ankle during the warm-up with no contact from another player," said head coach Jürgen Klopp at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
