Loris Karius delivers on Schalke's big night against Bayern Munich
Loris Karius has completed quite the redemption arc. The Schalke goalkeeper produced a Man of the Match performance to help his side shut out Bayern Munich in their first Bundesliga home game since May 2023, securing a memorable point for the newly promoted side.

Schalke returned to the top flight as Bundesliga 2 champions last season, but endured a difficult start to life back among Germany's elite, losing 3-0 at Augsburg on the opening weekend. There was no such disappointment at the Veltins-Arena, however, as Karius and his team-mates kept Bayern at bay.
For Karius in particular, it was a night of redemption. The 33-year-old's career has been defined in part by his UEFA Champions League final nightmare with Liverpool in 2018, while he later admitted he had considered retiring from football. His move to Schalke offered an unexpected route back to the top – and against Bayern, he produced perhaps his finest moment in a royal blue shirt.
"It was great for me. I only had to shout to keep going, move up, drop back," Karius said modestly, before shifting focus to the collective effort of his teammates. "Real credit to the guys for what they did. They kept so much away and made things so incredibly hard for Bayern. The guys really worked hard until they couldn't go anymore. Everyone today can be proud of their performance."
