Tennent’s Sixes: Everything you need to know
The original Tennent’s Sixes tournament gained a cult following of Scottish football fans during its nine-year run from 1984 until 1993, originally featuring first-team players and later transitioning to a competition between club legends. Next weekend, the iconic tournament returns with the aim of inspiring a new generation of fans as well as welcoming back those who were there for the first run. The Celtic squad will be managed by former captain Tom Boyd, who played in the original competition with Motherwell. Tom will lead a team of fan favourites: Aidan McGeady, Charlie Mulgrew, Simon Donnelly, Joe Ledley, Barry John Corr, Jonny Hayes, Derek Riordan, Gary Hooper and Glenn Loovens. BUY TICKETS The squad are thrilled to be pulling on the Hoops once again, this time featuring Union Technical as the official back of shirt sponsor. The two-day event takes place at Braehead Arena on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, with tickets available online now. All 12 Premiership teams have signed up to take part in the six-a-side competition, with Celtic in Group C alongside Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Rangers. Saturday's group stages will start with three regionalised groups of four, with each group winner and runner-up progressing to the knockout stages, along with the two best third-placed teams. To keep fans on the edge of their seats, every game will have a winner, with a bonus point for a penalty shoot-out win in the event of a draw. The sin bin will also be making a comeback, and organisers hope it will capture the imagination of football fans and families alike.
