Calvert-Lewin awarded second goal after Leeds appeal

The second goal of Leeds United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League has been awarded to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after an appeal by the club.

Calvert-Lewin rose highest to meet a cross and head the ball into the Newcastle net in the 34th minute of Monday night's match at Elland Road.

The goal was initially awarded to the Leeds striker, but the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel determined that the ball headed by Calvert-Lewin then made contact with his team-mate Jayden Bogle. As this was the last touch on the ball by an attacking player on its way into the net, the panel said the goal should be accredited to Bogle.

A club can appeal against a decision on the goalscorer to the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel.

Leeds made an appeal and the panel reviewed the footage and accredited Calvert-Lewin with the goal, increasing his tally for this season to three, while also removing the assist that was awarded to him for the goal.

That assist has now been awarded to James Justin, who supplied the cross that Calvert-Lewin scored from.

Sadly for the 2.3million Fantasy Premier League managers who had Calvert-Lewin in their teams, the accreditation of the goal came too late to be reflected in his points as it was the final match of Gameweek 4, and the game has now closed.

Calvert-Lewin would have been awarded an extra two points in FPL by converting his assist into a goal and earning him an additional bonus point, increasing his points haul for the match from 10 points to 12.
