Chelsea v Brighton predicted line-ups

Chelsea: Xabi Alonso has a decision to make in goal with Mike Penders an option after starting in the EFL Cup. Alonso fielded a strong side to beat Luton Town on Thursday night, which means a quick turnaround for many unless he makes multiple changes. The manager suggested Moises Caicedo can “hopefully” be ready for Saturday. Wesley Fofana is back from suspension and Pedro Neto is pushing to start, but Enzo Fernandez was not involved in midweek.

Brighton: Brighton also have a quick turnaround after UEFA Conference League duties on Thursday. Ferdi Kadioglu did not come off the bench for that game after missing last week’s win over Aston Villa but is one of multiple left-back options, alongside new signing Jaouen Hadjam, Olivier Boscagli and Maxim De Cuyper. Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh are out, Jack Hinshelwood sounds highly unlikely to play, while Georginio Rutter is only a slim chance to return from injury. Promise David could make his debut, although whether he starts seems uncertain.

Leeds v Brentford predicted line-ups

Leeds: Ilia Gruev, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Wilfried Gnonto are all back in training, but it would be a surprise to see any of them start this weekend. Few changes appear likely from the team that won their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, although Noah Okafor and Nico Elvedi both started as Leeds beat the same opposition in the EFL Cup on Tuesday so will provide alternative options.

Brentford: Keith Andrews will consider whether to hand a full debut to new signing El Hadji Malick Diouf, although the Brentford manager may well keep faith with the side that beat Tottenham 3-0 last weekend. That would mean Jaidon Anthony continuing on the bench despite providing three assists in the EFL Cup win over Birmingham City in midweek.

Sunderland v Fulham predicted line-ups

Sunderland: New signing Dayann Methalie is suspended for this game after yellow cards accumulated at his former club Toulouse, but fellow arrival Jules Ahoka is available for selection after joining this week. Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete are both in contention to start after disrupted pre-season campaigns, although Thomas Meunier could continue at right-back. Chris Rigg and Chemsdine Talbi provide wing options, while Simon Adingra remains out.

Fulham: Joachim Anderson returned from suspension in the EFL Cup on Thursday and will expect to start at the back here. It was a fine team performance in defeat against Chelsea, while most players had a midweek rest, so changes from that Premier League opener may be few. That could mean the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Shea Charles, Ryan Sessegnon and Kevin have to make do with places on the bench again.

Man Utd v Ipswich predicted line-ups

Man Utd: Michael Carrick confirmed Amad and new signing Carlos Baleba will both be out for a few weeks, but Mason Mount is available again as Man Utd look to move on from their defeat at Hull City. That loss may mean changes at the back, where Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro could come into the equation, as might Diogo Dalot. Marcus Rashford was one of the better players off the bench last weekend, while Kobbie Mainoo is an option in the middle and Benjamin Sesko could earn a start.

Ipswich: Gary O’Neil’s side returned to the Premier League with a victory in their opening match, so it would not be a surprise to see an unchanged side against Manchester United unless a formation change requires a tweak in personnel. O’Neil is “hoping” Florentino Luis will be fit to make his Ipswich debut, while he said “incredible signing” Exequiel Palacios should also be involved, although both perhaps look more likely to feature off the bench. Azor Matusiwa, Jack Taylor and Jaden Philogene are out.

Aston Villa v Arsenal predicted line-ups

Aston Villa: The changes continue at Aston Villa, with Unai Emery confirming he has said goodbye to Ollie Watkins ahead of a “new chapter here with Nicolas Jackson”. Those deals have yet to be confirmed, but Jackson could be involved if his signing goes through in time. Leon Goretzka and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are available after joining the club, and Zion Suzuki could start for the first time in goal. Joao Gomes is suspended following his red card in the defeat at Brighton, while Tammy Abraham, Brian Madjo and Johan Manzambi are expected to miss out through injury.

Arsenal: Ezri Konsa could make his Arsenal debut against former club Aston Villa, according to manager Mikel Arteta. “Yes, he’s available. He’s been training really well and I think he will be available for selection”. Arteta was more coy about a possible return for Bruno Guimaraes, who missed last week’s opener through injury. “We just managed the last few days with him. He’s out on the pitch”, he said. “He’s been doing training sessions, but we need to manage the load to get to Monday in the best possible condition to be able to get selected”. Jurrien Timber (groin) and William Saliba (back) are still out.
